Gilcrease on Wheels is a mobile museum experience that brings art and social studies to fourth and fifth grade students. Trained educators from the Gilcrease Museum offer two curriculum themes that coincide with each grade level: Native American culture for fourth grade, and U.S. history for fifth grade.
It will consist of a discussion-based lesson with demonstrations, an art activity, and exploring the traveling exhibits.
4th Grade (Friday, July 28)
Students will learn about the history and culture of Native Americans- Taos, New Mexico, Paintings, and Artifacts.
5th Grade (Saturday, July 29)
United States History
Students will review the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, national parks, United States presidents, wildlife, and westward expansion as it relates U. S. history. Students will learn to make connections between landscape paintings, sculpture, historical documents and cultural objects, and their lives today, in addition to what artwork can tell us about what life was like in the early years of our country.
These two exhibits contain historical information, touch and feel items, SmArt Cards, and facsimiles of documents and artwork from the museum’s collection. Each session is also enriched with educational artifacts from the museum. An interactive virtual tour of our Focus on Favorites exhibition rounds out the program.
